Afternoon T at Boyd’s Brasserie, Trafalgar Square

Boyd’s Brasserie is glam.

Just a short skip from Trafalgar Square, it’s nestled in 8 Northumberland Avenue Hotel.
I can’t comment on the hotel itself, but the restaurant is opulent and inviting. A grand bar, high ceilings, glittering chandeliers and marble walls. It’s a nod to it’s Victorian roots.
I arrived THIRSTY on a warm July afternoon to try its freshly launched afternoon tea.

The menu mixes savoury choices such as mini salt beef & pickled cucumber sandwiches and potted shrimps (a wildcard there) but it worked, followed by home-made scones, mini-eclairs, mini lemon drizzle cake (delicious) and tiny ice cream cone cups.

You can wash it all down with a glass of Veuve champers for a total of £29.90 each, or just take the Twinnings tea for £19.90 per person.

I was impressed by Boyd’s first attempt at afternoon tea, it has a little way to go perhaps in refining what it is offering, perhaps a bigger tea selection with some loose teas would be a bonus. I did however end up with a glass of bubbles, a tea and soft drink, so I was well watered!

They are happy to accommodate intolerances where they can too (gluten free bread and scones were on offer).

If you’re on the tourist trail visiting Trafalgar Square – this would be a lovely afternoon drop-by.

I am looking forward to going back soon to try their dinner menu, including a tempting pre-theatre list.

Sorry about the poor lighting – you can see a very happy Emily in the background with her tiny ice cream – tee hee!
