A trip away with Courvoisier Part #2 – Paris

After a most fantastic time in Jarnac, Cognac at the Courvoisier Chateau, seeing the beautiful French countryside and tasting the best cognac in the world, we didn’t think our weekend could possibly get any better… we were wrong.

We boarded the bus after lunch and so did our luggage, this meant only one thing – we were leaving Cognac. But where were we going now?
One of the lovely members of the Courvoisier team got to the front of the bus, took the mic and said ‘Right then you lot, who wants to go to Paris?!’

PARIS !!! I was so excited I almost cried. I’d never been before, had always wanted to, and now I was. I also knew that we were in more than safe hands, this wasn’t going to be any old budget trip to Paris, we were going to do it in style.

We boarded a train and travelled first class through the French countryside, through the suburban outskirts and then finally reached our destination. Paris.

Driving past the hoards of people glaring up at the Eiffel Tower, and with the Arc de Triomph at the end of the road we arrived at our hotel, the 5* Hotel Raphael. This wasn’t just any hotel, it was the most beautiful, elegant, glamorous, old fashioned Parisienne hotel. Black and mosaic tiles lined the entrance and red carpets led us up the spiral staircase to our appartment style grand bedroom which was fit for queens. Large glistening chandeliers, tall ceilings, balcony windows, heavy fabric curtains separating the rooms, and a bathroom  and free standing bath to die for.

Squealing with excitement we dashed around the bedroom and followed a secret trail of instructions to get to our final black envelope…

We donned our smart attire and got in to the quaint old fashioned lift straight to the 8th floor – the roof garden.

The light was beginning to drop, and nothing could have prepared me for the spectacular view that met us. The Eiffel Tower was shining at us in perfect view. Every hour on the hour after 9pm it does a sparkly jiggly dance with lights- it is the most beautiful thing to witness. We stayed up here for hours, kept warm with a mixture of excitement, pink champagne, canapés and cognac.

As the night turned into the early hours, more cognac was devoured and we headed to a Parisienne club… the rest is a happy blur!

The next morning lovely Laura and I headed to the Eiffel Tower (well, she dragged me out of bed feeling very hungover but it was all for my own good!) I wanted to see it a bit closer up, and I’m so glad I did. Paris is so beautiful. Gothic, arty and intriguing, I can’t wait to come back.

After deciding it was probably best to stay as horizontal as possible for the rest of the day, it was a welcomed surprise to be taken to the most inviting, green Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, where we were given the top floor of Le Pavillion du Lac to feast on a smoked salmon brunch. Champagne and cognac was on offer (of course) but not even I could stomach some this time!

We wandered around the beautiful park and sat by the lake taking in the scenery and Parisienne air, before heading to Gare de Nord to get the Eurostar home.

This was another first for me, and a luxury to be in first class with yet again more lovely Courvoisier branding and treats.

It was the most magical, indulgent weekend from start to finish, we met the most lovely group of  people and the surprises kept it exciting and brilliantly fun right the way to the end.

Here’s a little video thank you to Courvoisier from moi:
